Fraud (known as The Master of Disguise) is the titular main antagonist in Identity Fraud.

About[]

Before taking on the appearance of a player, Fraud is a pitch black, R6 monster that roams the mazes of Identity Fraud. It spawns in at the start of the game, in a long hallway. It sits in an inactive state until approximately 2 minutes and 20 seconds. It is the only monster (excluding Kate) that does not attack on sight-- rather, it fools the players into thinking it is another player, then waves at them before running at them to attack. If Fraud touches the player in its chase sequence, it proceeds to kill the player and take their appearance. It will also attack any players that witnessed the murder. Fraud will not attack or wave at you if it's behind you. It may also switch targets if in a group.

Strategies[]

Fraud, being the "main monster", is unique, as it has its own chase sequence, and (apart from occasionally Kate) does not attack on sight. Its attack is about to begin when it waves at a player. Any player that witnessed the wave will then become a potential target of Fraud. It will float a few studs above the floor, then fly at the victim with a hasty speed with its head twitching. All the while, the player's screen will also zoom out (FOV increase) slightly and they will gain a temporary speed boost to outrun Fraud. A chase theme will also start to play when this happens.

The theme that used to play in Fraud's chase sequence before the OST update is "Suitor Theme" from Amnesia: Justine.

Current Fraud's chase sequence theme is "On Your Heels" by Jammez.

While it isn't always the most obvious, Fraud plans its route before it takes action. It will walk to the nearest player/group and once it makes its presence known, it will wave, signaling it's about to attack. Whether that be you or the person standing next to you is up to Fraud.

Before the game's Maze 2 update, a way to avoid being attacked is to exploit its tendency to only attack players that can see it, is by pressing your head against the wall after Fraud waves. After the Maze 2 update though, Fraud may still chase you even if you press your head against the wall.

When it does decide to wave at you, you can run in circles through hallways to save yourself, especially if there are two long hallways connected to each other in a loop.

Its chase sequence ends in about 30-45 seconds. Once it kills its target or if the target escapes, it returns to its default state. However, there have been reports and recorded history where its chase has lasted 50 seconds. It is also important to note that if Fraud is in a completely black appearance with no hats or face, there will be no outrunning it as Fraud has no disguise and will need to kill you in order to start the chain of appearances stolen. Fraud may still continue to chase you after the chase theme and your FOV returns to normal. It is important to know your way around and avoid dead ends. However, if you do happen to run into a dead end, it is entirely possible to go around Fraud before it touches you, though this is incredibly difficult to pull off.

Fraud is usually only in the first maze. However, it can follow you into the second and third maze (it usually breaks in the third maze, while oddly, it functions normally in the second maze.) Fraud very rarely spawns in the second and third mazes naturally. (This only happens if you are playing in a solo server, as Fraud spawns close to you in a solo server.)

Before the game's revamp, Fraud's disguise was more convincing due to not having a grid pattern at the time. Players used to identify Fraud over a player by spinning.

If you or your friend dies to Fraud, then Fraud will take the form of the person which was killed. In most cases in private/empty servers, Fraud will look like you if you encounter them again. Seeing yourself besides at a mirror would obviously indicate that you're seeing Fraud. (Unless someone's avatar is the exact same as yours.)

Fraud tends to attack groups. When it does, it targets the largest group on the server. On rare occasions, there are no groups on the server. if that's the case, Fraud will be happy to attack a lone person. Because of this, when Fraud waves, it occasionally decides not to attack and instead continues on its way.

Main Differences Between Fraud and a Player[]

Tip: Fraud, unlike Ralph is an already spawned in monster. This means that if someone just spawns into the game, it is not fraud.

  1. All monsters, including Fraud, are detectable on both Advanced and Normal radar.
  2. Just before Fraud attacks, it waves. Sometimes players will troll by acting like Fraud and using the /e wave emote.
  3. Fraud twitches its head abnormally when it attacks.
  4. No footsteps emanate from Fraud when it's walking.
  5. Fraud will not look behind them like most players normally do in the game.
  6. Fraud's appearance might bug out (some accessories floating). This is due to that fact that some players use Rthro or R15, which glitches Fraud's avatar as he is an R6 model. However in most servers, Fraud now replicates the normal body shapes, such as the female body that it often struggled with.
  7. Fraud walks in the middle of a hallway (mostly, sometimes Fraud will walk near the wall) and never turn except at a 90 or 180 degree. Before the revamp Fraud used to act like a real player. So it was more difficult to tell the difference between Fraud and a real player.
  8. Fraud doesn't appear in the mirror. (This is the case with other monsters.)
  9. Fraud floats off the ground and travels at high speed when in attack mode.
  10. Due to the game's revamp, Fraud now follows a grid pattern. (Read 7)
  11. After the Maze 2 update, Fraud is unable to collide with players and will phase through you when walking.
  12. Fraud walks slightly faster than players.
  13. Fraud will take sharp turns on hallways. (Read 7)
  14. Fraud only waves at corners and T-intersections. It will never wave when walking down a hallway unless there is another hall branching out from it

Pro-Tip: *Fraud spawns extremely close to you if you are the only person in a server.

Pro-Tip: If you're with peers and Fraud starts chasing one of your friends, DON'T look at them. If Fraud kills them, it will go after you or someone else who saw it.

Pro-Tip: Note who dies from Fraud. If you find their clone, and they wave, run.

Pro-Tip: You cannot stop Fraud by having Stan block its way, Fraud now climbs over Stan or goes around it.

Pro-Tip: Fraud will sometimes not indicate that it is attacking by waving. There are rare cases where Fraud only attacks if it's AI chooses to or if you're staring at its face/front side for long enough.

Pro-Tip: If you are unsure if someone is waving to troll you or if they are actually Fraud, refer to Tips 7, 13, and 14

Trivia[]

  • There is a glitch that happens rarely when Fraud is in its attacking state but does not move or do anything. You can move them around the maze and can possibly use it like a shield.
  • Other monsters such as Ralph can still attack you whether you are in the chase sequence or not.
  • Ralph no longer attacks Fraud and they now go through each other, Fraud cannot be used as a shield against Ralph.
  • Fraud is sometimes used as a speed boost for speed runners.
  • The shattering sound effect used when Fraud kills you is also used in the song "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" in the Disney movie "Mulan".
  • As listed above, Fraud cannot be seen in a mirror.
  • Fraud is now on the creator marketplace.
