About[]

Identity was a titular and very rare monster in both Identity Fraud and Identity Fraud 2. Identity was removed from the first game[1] due to a number of problems with the AI code.

Identity is scheduled for potential re-addition on the next large-scale patch, however while stated officially by developers that it is planned, it was also stated that it was not guaranteed.

Identity is sometimes referred to under the misnomer of Jailer, which contrary to popular belief, is not the official name of the character. This name was coined by players and seemed to stick as the name made sense for his behavior. Ultimately, both names work fine, and the choice of name is solely up to whether the player wishes to respect the original development model or go with a name that they think fits him best.

Quotes:

"Hello, (Chosen Nickname). You've been busy lately. Haven't you?"

"...That man. ...He's not doing too well."

"Of course you'd be the one to prioritize knowledge over guilt. Over remorse... I think about you. I think about us... What makes you tick? I'm asking that honestly. What makes any of us who we are? I had no intentions to become philosophical, but here we are."

"I am in a subway cart. You, however. You are trapped. A prisoner... Take of that what you will. For we have run out of time. Until we meet again. Goodbye, (Chosen Nickname)."

"Oh look at you. You've found yourself in front of a familiar face. In a familiar subway cart set for an unknown destination and coming from another unknown. Only two passengers onboard, and both have their issues. The question is, who has more?"

"Your confusion has been etched perfectly upon your face. It's so clear to me... Humans are such an interesting topic to me... They are strange creatures. If they don't understand, they will... Some ways of understanding should not make sense. But people still follow these beliefs. Not that they had a choice... It's truly amazing how beautifully naive some can be. I'm sure you know what I mean."

"...I know that look. Lying will get you no favours... You're clueless. Well, not entirely. You have a few guesses, but nothing specific. I know your supposed to practice what you preach, but I'm not the murderer here. I think I'll be fine with giving myself a few liberties... Allow me to make a suggestion. Talk to the others."

"...It's a shame... Human brains, and by extension, humans, are not perfect. The flaws are what makes them whole. Most humans hide them. For whatever reason, they're terrified of the mere thought that people think they're not perfect... Heaven forbid someone knew... Some people, a minority, are able to speak openly without fear. Without hesitation... Perhaps you should do the same..."

"I'm tired of the silence."

"Oh! It's you again. You know, I wasn't expecting you to be visiting so soon. You often go several days before you drop by to talk... I wish you would visit more often... But yeah, it's good to see you again. It's been far too long... The silence is killing me."

"Don't be. I'm sure this is out of your control... Yeah.."

"...You've been asking me a lot of questions, but I fear our exchanges have mostly one sided. I intend to change that. So, a few days ago, a day after you were incarcerated, you gave me a rather strange look... Why?"

"...Ah. Don't take this the wrong way, but I guess that's quite typical of you... You uh. You forget things, but never the things you want to forget... I sense that our time is about to come to a close... Until next time."

"Hello. Now, we haven't been able to do this until now, but it's mandatory that we do a psychological evaluation on all of our inmates. Is that alright with you? ...Alright. I have ten cards here. And what I'd like you to do is tell me the first thing that comes to your mind. Okay? What do you see in this one?"

"Take a closer look."

"...Can you see anything else? ...Alright. How about this one? ...Okay. And this one?"

"...Anything else? Try taking a closer look."

"What are they doing?"

"What are they talking about?"

"Alright."

"Just checking."

"How about this one? Go on."

"And this one? What are they doing? Do you see anything else? Yes. What are they doing?"

"What does this one look like? ...Okay."

"What do you see in this one?"

"...What are they doing? How?"

"Yeah, it has a lot. What do you see in this one?"

"What kind of animals?"

"And this one? ..Alright."

"Try to do your best... What do you see in this card?"

"I'm looking for something more specific. Anything else? Do you see anything else? ...Okay.. Anything else? Okay. I think we're done here. Rest well." -Identity (IF2)

"Okay guys. The April Fools joke is almost fin- What in the world did I walk in on?"

"I don't want to hear it, Ralph. (Name). What are you doing with that body pillow? Are those candles? Are you.. Are you having a candle lit dinner.. with a body pillow? ...I don't even know anymore. I turn my back on you for 2 seconds and this is what you do. Great. Just great. Either way, happy April Fools." -Identity/The Developer (Identity Fraud: The Graphic Novel)

Behaviour[]

Prior to his removal, Identity would have a 5% chance of spawning after a server had been running for roughly 45 minutes. Upon touching you, he would teleport you into a jail cell along with himself, cops/guards would then enter the cell, and kill him and you. He seemed to walk back and forth in place, making it harder to find him.

The song "Something's Wrong" from Firewatch will play when he spawns.

A video follows what this scenario looks like.

Identity Fraud 2[]

In Chapter 3, Identity would be sitting on one of the seats of a metro during a dream sequence. He would then speak to the player about how you killed a person and ask if you regret doing it.

Trivia[]

  • His suit has resembles the G-Man's suit from the Half-Life games.
  • The guards that kill the player and Identity contain features similar to the Nova Prospekt guards from Half-Life 2 with their SMGs and their armor.
  • Identity is believed to be your doctor from the beginning cutscene in Identity Fraud.
  • In Identity Fraud 2, Identity serves a similar role to the G-Man as a seemingly omnipotent life form who wears a suit and is only seen in visions or dreams. He is also very cryptic and secretive about his actual identity and talks in a strange way just like the G-Man.
  • Identity was removed from the game and can no longer be found.
  • In Day 6, Identity is referred to as "Psychologist" in the dialogue when he wakes you up after a long coma, going back to the theory of him being your doctor in the dialogue from the first game. (This was done in an April Fools update that allows you to continue to the day after the following when you pass out while walking to J's office. The video confirming this is here)
  • When Identity wakes you up from your coma prior to the events in Day 5, he shows you cards with pictures, asking what is on them to make sure you're alright.
  • The bed that you're on when Identity wakes you up is in the same room as the room the title screen shows if the player has reached Chapter 3
  • The jail cell that Identity teleports you to in the first game looks very similar to the parts of Maze 3 around Stoic's gas chamber in Identity Fraud 2.

Hunting[]

Identity had a rare spawning chance, so it was highly unlikely that the average player would recognize him. If you saw him, he would not run towards you, but instead walk in a straight line towards you. If you walked far enough from him, you would lose him. In contrast, if he touched you, he would teleport himself along with you to a jail cell. A firing squad would then come to shoot you. He also died in this process.
